Application Process

An electronic application will be accepted through the stated deadline for each vacancy. Failure to provide required verification of education, licenses or certifications may result in the applicant being disqualified from continuing in the selection process.  If you have questions about your application contact (361) 826-3300 or send email to personnel@cctexas.com

The information provided by an applicant on the application and other information submitted will be investigated to verify the applicant's record and qualifications for employment.  Applicant must list all employment (including military service) for the past 10 years or for the last 2 employers, whichever is greater, begin with most recent position and work back.  Applicant must explain any gaps in employment greater than 6 months (ie: unemployed, enrolled in school, military, retirement, etc.); include start and end dates with a brief explanation. Falsification or omission of information shall be grounds for rejection of an application; and may be grounds for dismissal for current city employees.

Requirements for Employment

DRIVING RECORD REQUIREMENTS

The City of Corpus Christi shall verify the driving record of the finalists for  positions which require a driver's license.  Any applicant will be disqualified from consideration of initial employment, or promotion to any position with the City of Corpus Christi, which requires a drivers license, if he/she has any of the following:

  • An external applicant who has a total of two or more moving violations and/or accidents on his/her Department of Public Safety motor vehicle driver record within one year of the date of his/her application, or a total of three or more moving violations and/or accidents in three years will not be eligible for consideration for employment.
  • An internal applicant who has a total of three or more moving violations and/or accidents on his/her Department of Public Safety motor vehicle driver record within one year of the date of his/her application, or a total of four or more moving violations and /or accidents in three years will not be eligible for consideration for employment in the position.
  • An external applicant who has a Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) conviction within three (3) years of the date of his/her application will not be eligible for employment.
  • An internal applicant who has a Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) conviction within eighteen (18) months of the date of his/her application will not be eligible for employment in the position.

 

COMPENSATION

Upon initial appointment, the pay level will be determined in accordance with Article III Employee Classification and Compensation System of the Corpus Christi Code of Ordinances; Chapter 39, Personnel.

 

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • City employees may reside outside the Corpus Christi City limits. It is a requirement that employees live in a location that they may reach the City Hall within sixty (60) minutes of traveling by motor vehicle at posted speeds in ordinary weekday traffic.
  • A newly hired employee must comply with residency requirements within six (6) months of hire.
  • Employees anticipating a move requiring a commute of more than sixty (60) minutes from City Hall must submit a request for an exception to the City Manager in advance of such a move.

 

ESSENTIAL SERVICES NOTICE

All Employees of the City of Corpus Christi hold essential services positions and, as part of  the City's Emergency Response Team, provide services in the course and scope of their employment for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Corpus Christi's citizens. All City employees may be required to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency or disaster as required of the circumstances, unless a waiver is requested and approved.
