October 24, 2023: The contractor has completed all the concrete pavement on the South Staples Street project. They will continue working on curbs, sidewalks, and inlet tops and will soon start traffic signal work.

September 22, 2023
The contractor has finished the limestone base installation on the project, and concrete pavement has been installed from Kostoryz Road to Annapolis Drive. In the coming weeks, the contractor will be installing concrete pavement, curb, and sidewalks from Annapolis Drive to Baldwin Boulevard.

August 23, 2023
The contractor has completed the project from Ralston Avenue to Kostoryz Road. Installation of a limestone base is underway from Ralston Avenue to Baldwin Boulevard on the southbound side of the roadway. Once complete, temporary lane closures will be needed to install the concrete pavement. The project is set to be completed in November 2023.

July 19, 2023
The South Staples street contractor is currently doing exploratory work to remove a sewer line that was in conflict with the original project design. Materials are set to arrive later this week and work will begin to remove the line.

June 7, 2023
The contractor is currently working on the installation of gas lines, sidewalks, and ADA curb ramps. Next week, they will begin working on a new waterline from Annapolis Drive to Kosar Street. The project is currently 75% complete.

March 10, 2023
The South Staples Street project is currently 75% complete. The contractor is working on lateral utility connections and hopes to have them completed by the end of the week. The project is anticipated to be completed this Fall.

November 21, 2022
The contractor has completed the installation of the concrete roadway on South Staples Street up to Chamberlain Street. The contractor has also completed the waterline, gas line, storm water line, sidewalk, ADA ramps, curb, and gutter installation on the northbound side through Ralston Avenue. The contractor plans to complete the remaining sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and ADA ramps on the northbound side over the next few weeks. Once complete a traffic switch will move motorists from the southbound side to the northbound side. The South Staples Street project is currently 65% complete.

September 14, 2022
The contractor has installed concrete roadway from Ohio Street to Texas Avenue and portions of the roadway between Texas Avenue to Ponder Street. Sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and ADA ramps are complete from Baldwin Boulevard and Texas Avenue. The water line installation has been completed from Vaky Street to McClendon Street and limestone roadway base has been installed from Texas Avenue to Chamberlain Street. Starting 9/14/22 the contractor will start placing concrete at the Texas Avenue intersection and once complete they will move to the next intersection heading towards Chamberlain Street.  All intersections receiving new concrete roadway will be closed for approximately 2 weeks to allow for installation of the concrete.  Access for local residents will be allowed through Reed Dr. The South Staples Street project is currently 45% complete.

August 8, 2022
The contractor is currently working on the storm water system, water and gas line installations in the northbound lanes. The new roadway limestone base material has been installed from Texas Ave to Deforest Street and will continue in the area of Vaky and Deforest over the coming weeks. Intermittent closures of side streets can be expected as crews continue utility installations at the intersections. Notices will be distributed to area residents 2 days prior to closures. Only one intersection will be closed at a time. The South Staples Street project is currently 40% complete.

July 11, 2022
The contractor is currently working on gas, water, wastewater, and storm water installations.  The concrete road installation continues and has been completed on the northbound lanes between Baldwin Blvd and Texas Ave. The South Staples Street project is currently 33% complete.

April 20, 2022
The contractor has completed the waterline installation from Ohio Avenue to Ponder Street as well as gas lines from Louisiana Avenue to Texas Avenue. They are currently working on storm water, traffic lighting, and sewer lines. City staff continues to coordinate with AT&T on underground duct bank installations and the project is currently 25% complete.

January 12, 2022
The contractor has installed the concrete roadway on the northbound lanes from Louisiana Avenue to Baldwin Boulevard. Storm water work from Louisiana Avenue to Ohio Avenue has been completed and utility work through Texas Avenue should be complete by the end of the month weather permitting. Traffic signal poles are currently being installed at the intersection of Louisiana Avenue, Kosar Street, and Staples Street.

The contractor is currently installing limestone base between Baldwin Boulevard and Kosar Street.  They’re also making progress on the installation of the new storm water system from Ohio Avenue to Texas Avenue.

October 5, 2021
The Staples Street project is moving forward, the contractor continues work on the new storm water system installation. The waterline installation at Kosar Street and Louisiana Avenue has been completed and roadwork has begun. Weather permitting the contractor is anticipated to have the roadwork completed at the Kosar Street and Louisiana Avenue intersection next month. AT&T crew are also onsite working to relocate and/or lower existing duct bank.  City staff is working with the contractor to develop an action plan to dispose of contaminated soil between Kosar Street and Texas Avenue. Excavation and the installation of the storm water system from Ohio Avenue to Texas Avenue is anticipated to begin this week.

September 2, 2021
Construction continues on Staples Street as the contractor moves forward with installation of new water lines and storm water laterals between Louisiana Avenue and Baldwin Boulevard. They are also adjusting lighting for both temporary and permanent traffic signals within lighted intersections. AT&T is adjusting a duct bank from Ohio Avenue to Kosar Street and City Staff is working closely with the contractor in the testing, removal, and disposal of newly discovered contaminated soil located between Kosar Street and Louisiana Avenue.

July 30, 2021
This month the contractor completed the removal of the contaminated soil that was discovered in the northbound lanes of Staples Street at the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Kosar Street. Following the completion of the cleanup they began working on new storm water line installation at the South Staples Street intersection. The storm water utility work will take several months weather permitting.

 

June 16, 2021
This week, City Staff and the contractor developed a plan to remove contaminated soil discovered in the northbound lanes of Staples Street at the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Kosar Street. Soil testing is planned for this week and the removal and excavation of the contaminated soil will begin once testing results are received. Once the contaminated soil removal starts, crews will then begin working on the new storm water installation at the South Staples Street intersection. The storm water utility work will take several weeks weather permitting.
