Phase 1B: Ennis Joslin Road to Airline Road

This week, the final riding surface, roadway striping, and utility adjustments were completed on the southbound lanes near the Airline Road intersection. It is anticipated that the roadway will be opened up in the next two weeks and then work will begin on the Northbound lanes.

Next week, work will continue on curbs, gutters, and driveways.

The intersection of Airline Road and Ocean Drive is still closed to traffic as construction continues. Traffic will be detoured via Gaines Street and Robert Drive (see detour plan).

Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the construction zone as heavy truck traffic will be entering and exiting the travel lanes. Additionally, please be advised that bike lanes in the active construction zone from Ennis Joslin to Airline are closed.

Phase 1B: Ennis Joslin Road to Airline Road

This week, the final riding surface on the southbound lanes of Ocean drive between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road was completed. In addition. work continued on both manholes and valve adjustments in the same area. The southbound lanes will be opened to traffic once final striping is installed.

The intersection of Airline Road and Ocean Drive is still closed to traffic as construction continues. Traffic will be detoured via Gaines Street and Robert Drive (see detour plan).

The City is anticipating both wet and cold weather next week. Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the construction zone as heavy truck traffic will be entering and exiting the travel lanes. Additionally, please be advised that bike lanes in the active construction zone from Ennis Joslin to Airline are closed.

This week the Contractor continued the installation of the final riding surface on the southbound lanes of Ocean drive between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road. They also began manhole and valve adjustments in the same area.

Phase 1B: Ennis Joslin Road to Airline Road

This week the Contractor worked to install the final riding surface on the southbound lanes of Ocean Drive between Airline Road and Ennis Joslin Road. This work is expected to continue next week.

Beginning on February 3rd, the contractor will begin implementing the traffic control plan for the next phase of construction. The intersection of Airline Road and Ocean Drive will be closed, and motorist are encouraged to follow detour signs. Large delivery trucks are also encouraged to use SPID to Ennis Joslin Road.

The contractor would like to remind residents that heavy truck traffic will be entering and exiting the travel lanes and to use caution when exiting driveways. Additionally, please be advised that bike lanes in the active construction zone from Ennis Joslin to Airline are closed.

The Contractor continued with the 4-inch street milling process and sub surface repairs in the southbound lanes. Weather permitting, the contractor plans to begin paving the final roadway surface on the southbound lanes between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road, next week.

This week the Contractor continued South with the 4-inch street milling process and sub surface repairs in the southbound lanes between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road. At the end of next week, the contractor will begin installing the final roadway surface in the Southbound lanes from Ennis Joslin Road to Airline Road.

They continued with the 4-inch street milling process and sub surface repairs in the southbound lanes between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road. This process will continue over the next several weeks and the final roadway surface installation will begin once milling is complete.

Additionally, please be advised that bike lanes in the active construction zone from Ennis Joslin to Airline are closed. Due to phased construction there will be intermittent bike lane closures until construction is complete.

Residents were notified via mail last week if the removal of overhanging tree limbs was necessary to ensure the safety of construction crews. Questions or concerns regarding tree limb removal can be directed to the City Inspector at 361-460-2879.

Construction crews will be on holiday break beginning on Friday, January 1st and they will return to the job site on Monday, January 4th.

Phase 1B: Ennis Joslin Road to Airline Road

This week the contractor completed the traffic switch between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road. Two-way traffic has switched from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes. Traffic flow continues in both directions. The current lane configuration is temporary and will return to its original configuration after placement of final pavement surface. Construction continues on the southbound lanes, which consists of curb replacement and 4-inch street milling this week. Street milling is expected to continue over the next several weeks.

The contractor would like to remind residents that heavy truck traffic will be entering and exiting the travel lanes. Additionally, please be advised that bike lanes in the active construction zone from Ennis Joslin to Airline are closed. Due to phased construction there will be intermittent bike lane closures until construction is complete.

Tree trimming crews will be in the area over the next few weeks. Residents were notified via mail if the removal of overhanging tree limbs is necessary to ensure the safety of construction crews and the protection of property.

Construction crews will be on holiday break beginning on Thursday, December 24th and they will return to the job site on Monday, December 28th.

Phase 1B: Ennis Joslin Road to Airline Road

Two-way traffic has switched from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes. Traffic flow continues in both directions. The current lane configuration has shifted to allow room for construction equipment to repave the crossovers. The current lane configuration is temporary and will return to its original configuration after placement of final pavement surface. The sub-surface repair has been placed on the northbound lanes and the final riding surface will be placed once work is completed on the southbound lanes. Construction continues on the southbound lanes, which consists of curb replacement and 4-inch street milling this week. Street milling is expected to continue over the next several weeks.  Heavy truck traffic will be entering and exiting the travel lanes. Please be advised that bike lanes in the active construction zone from Ennis Joslin to Airline are closed. Due to phased construction there will be intermittent bike lane closures until construction is complete.

The iconic Ocean Drive Reconstruction Project continues to move forward despite wet weather over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Construction Crews worked on curb replacements and 4-inch street milling this week between Ennis Joslin and Airline Road. Street Milling is expected to continue over the next several months.

Starting on Monday, December 7th, two-way traffic will switch from the northbound lanes to the southbound lanes between Ennis Joslin Road to Airline Road. Traffic flow will continue in both directions.

November 25, 2020
The 4-inch street milling and the pouring of curb replacements continued this week between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road. This work is expected to last for the next 2 to 3 weeks. The general contractor will limit driveway work on Wednesday to accommodate anticipated holiday traffic. They would like to remind residents to be aware of heavy traffic on the closed side of the roadway and recommend that caution is used when exiting driveways. No work is anticipated on 11/26 and 11/27 due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

 

November 20, 2020
Street milling began this week on the Ocean Drive Reconstruction Project. The contractor will continue street milling next week and will start performing curb replacements between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road. The contractor would like to remind motorists to be aware of heavy traffic on the closed side of the roadway. They recommend that residents use caution while exiting their driveways. No work will be done on 11/26 and 11/27 due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

 

November 13, 2020
Preliminary work continued this week on the Ocean Drive: Louisiana Ave. to Ennis Joslin Road Project. The contractor continued to bring in needed equipment and materials for the project. These materials are being stored at Swantner Park. Next week, the contractor plans to work on manholes, valve adjustments, and curb replacements on Northbound Ocean Drive between Ennis Joslin Road and Airline Road. Street milling operations are currently scheduled to start on November 16th.

 

November 6, 2020
Preliminary work continued this week on the Ocean Drive: IH-37 to Ennis Joslin Road Project. The lay down yard and fencing located at Swantner Park was installed this week. This space will hold construction materials needed for the project. Next week, the contractor plans to begin work on area manholes, valve adjustments, and curb replacements. Street milling operations is now set for November 12th.

 

October 30, 2020
The Ocean Drive: IH-37 to Ennis Joslin Road project continued this week. The contractor began installing the perimeter traffic control this week with the majority of the implementation taking place next week. A tentative date for the milling process is set for November 9th. The City’s communication team completed the mailing of informational brochures to Ocean Drive residents this week. Additionally, updates will be provided throughout the construction process.

 

October 23, 2020
The Ocean Drive: IH-37 to Ennis Joslin Road project began last week. The General Contractor is currently working with the City’s Traffic Engineering Department to finalize the traffic control plan that will be installed in the coming weeks. There was also some minor work done on storm inlets to assist with drainage along the construction path. The City’s Communication Department in coordination with the Engineering Department are currently in the process of notifying residents and business owners about the upcoming construction. Next week, the contractor plans to begin some perimeter traffic control implementation with the bulk of the install to begin the first week of November.

 

October 16, 2020
The Ocean Drive: IH-37 to Ennis Joslin Road project began this week. The General Contractor is currently working with the City’s Traffic Engineering Department to finalize the traffic control plan that will be installed in the coming weeks. The City’s Communication Department in coordination with the Engineering Department are currently in the process of notifying residents and business owners about the upcoming construction.  Next week, the contractor plans to begin the traffic control implementation, lowering of manholes and curb replacement.
