April 20, 2022:

Segment 1 (Graham Road to SPID) and Segment 3 (Mediterranean Drive to Wyndale Street): Both segments are substantially complete. The remaining scope includes two small sections of asphalt that will be replaced with concrete and the contractor is working on establishing grass along the roadway. Both will be completed in the coming weeks.

Segment 2 (Caribbean Drive to Hustlin’ Hornet Drive): The contractor is currently working to install matting along the shoreline. The new asphalt roadway is scheduled for installation next week along with guardrail installation, striping, signage and seeding.

Weather permitting the project should be complete in the next month.

 

NOVEMBER 23, 2021:

Segment 1 (Graham Road to SPID): The contractor is currently working on installing roadway base material between Knickerbocker Street and South Padre Island Drive. They are also placing concrete driveways, curb inlets, and safety end treatments (SET’s) on all storm water pipes. The storm water outfall at Debra Lane has been installed and ditch grading has begun.   Segment 1 is scheduled to be completed December 2021, weather permitting.

Segment 2 (Caribbean Drive to Hustlin’ Hornet Drive): The contractor has completed Beasley Channel and is working to remove the berms this week. Work on the Van Galen Channel is scheduled to begin the Monday after Thanksgiving. Segment 2 is scheduled to be completed by March 2022, weather permitting.

Segment 3 (Mediterranean Drive to Wyndale Street): The contractor continues to work on the Yorktown ditch SET’s and wing walls. Base material has been installed and tested throughout the project. Paving is set to begin before Christmas. Segment 3 is scheduled to be finished December 2021, weather permitting.

 

OCTOBER 19, 2021:

Segment 1 (Graham Road to SPID): The contractor is currently working on roadway subgrade between Knickerbocker Street and South Padre Island Drive. The storm water outfall at Debra Lane has been extended and continues to be cleaned and dried out, once complete it will receive new concrete.  Water, wastewater, and storm water utilities are complete. Segment 1 is 90% complete and is scheduled to be fully open to the public by December 2021, weather permitting.

Segment 2 (Caribbean Drive to Hustlin’ Hornet Drive): The contractor has completed the installation of new reinforced concrete boxes at the Beasley Channel and are currently working on head and wing walls. Utilities are currently 95% complete and the full project is 78% complete. Segment 2 is scheduled to be completed by March 2022, weather permitting.

Segment 3 (Mediterranean Drive to Wyndale Street): The contractor has completed the roadway subgrade and utility installation.  The contractor continues to work on the Yorktown ditch and are currently 75% complete. Driveways are 85% complete and roadway paving is planned for next month. Segment 3 is 85% complete and is scheduled to be finished December 2021, weather permitting

 

SEPTEMBER 14, 2021:

Segment 1 (Graham Road to SPID): The contractor is currently working on roadway subgrade between Graham Road and Knickerbocker Street. The storm water outfall at Debra Lane has been extended is currently being cleaned and dried out, once complete it will receive new concrete.  Water, wastewater, and storm water utilities are substantially complete and are anticipated be completed by the end of the week. The project is 85% complete and is scheduled to be completed by November 2021, weather permitting.

Segment 2 (Caribbean Drive to Hustlin’ Hornet Drive): The contractor is working on the installation of new reinforced concrete boxes at the Beasley Channel. The 12” waste water force main is currently being tied into the Van Galen Channel and is expected to be completed this week. The project is 70% complete and is scheduled to be completed by February 2022, weather permitting.

Segment 3 (Mediterranean Drive to Wyndale Street): The contractor is currently working on the roadway subgrade installation and is near completion.   The Yorktown ditch structure is 75% complete and the utility installations are 95% complete.  All new driveways have been completed from Wyndale Drive to Yorktown Road and the driveways between Yorktown Road and Mediterranean Drive will be installed in the coming weeks. The project is 80% complete and is scheduled to be completed December 2021, weather permitting.

 

July 13, 2021:

Segment 1 (Graham Road to SPID): Mako Contracting LLC, worked to install both the 18” and 6” waterlines and stormwater lines this week. Once complete they will begin prepping the roadway for new asphalt. The drainage outfall at Debra Lane has been delayed due to excess rainwater associated with the rain event from last week. Once the area has been cleared work will continue.

Segment 2 (Caribbean Drive to Hustlin’ Hornet Drive): Wastewater work continues as the contractor works closely with City Staff on 3 force main tie ins. Once complete they will move on to the Van Galen and Beasley Channels. Each channel is anticipated to take about 2 months. Once complete crews will begin prepping the area for new asphalt.

Segment 3 (Mediterranean Drive to Wyndale Street): Mako Contracting continues with the installation of the remaining 14 stormwater boxes on Laguna Shores. They are also working to complete the main lines and lateral line installation. The contractor is also working to troubleshoot excess water located in the Yorktown Ditch. Rain and tidal water has delayed completion. Pending weather and drainage the contractor hopes to start installing asphalt in September.

 

June 10, 2021:

This week, Mako Contracting LLC, completed the pressure testing for a new water line tie-in on Segment 1 of the Laguna Shores project (Graham to SPID). On Segment 2 (Caribbean to Hustlin Hornet), Haas-Anderson Contracting Inc. started the tie-in for the first directional bored waterline. They also worked on storm water lines near Buena Vista Drive and began pumping water at the Yorktown Boulevard ditch so that they can begin working on the new outfall system as part of Segment 3 (Mediterranean to Wyndale). Next week, on Segment 1 the contractor will continue with storm water line installation and water line bypass work. On Segment 2, they hope to complete the water line tie-in and force main tie-in at Beasley Channel and the Van Galen Channel. As part of Segment 3, they will continue to work on the installation of new storm drains between Buena Vista Drive and Riverdale Drive while also working to complete the outfall system near the Yorktown Boulevard ditch. All work is weather permitting.

 

January 29, 2021:
