Welcome to the Xeriscape Information Pages
Xeriscape (pronounced Zer'-i-skap) is the conservation of water and energy with water conservation in mind. The concept was developed by the Denver Water Department during the early 1980's to promote water conservation during a critical drought period. The word Xeriscape has become an international term, as countless cities promote the use of Xeriscape to help curb water use and to extend limited water resources.

Why Xeriscape?
The need for water conservation is critical to the Coastal Bend area regardless of the amount of water rights acquired for future use. Water use in the landscape is known to increase 50 to 60 percent during summer time use. The following information is designed to help home owners and commercial facilities to learn more about how water can be more efficiently used to help save money, maintenance costs, and water.
