The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Senior Community Services (SCS) strives to cultivate the best quality of life for persons age 50 plus. Programs are designed for active senior adults and those faced with the challenges of mature living. Our benefits counselors are available to assess your eligibility for federal and state assistance programs for seniors.

The eight Senior Centers which are located throughout Corpus Christi offer a variety of programs and activities designed to meet the social, recreational, nutritional, educational and health needs of individuals in our community age 50 plus. Please call for more information.

'Beat The Heat' Cooling Centers

For the ninth year, the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Senior Community Services is partnering with Reliant to provide three “Beat the Heat” cooling centers. These centers provide a free, safe and air-conditioned place for local residents to stay cool and also helps reduce the need for home electricity use during the hottest summer days. 'Cool Corpus Christi' Fan Drive
May 25-June 15, 2018

Kick-off on Friday, May 25, at 10am at Greenwood Senior Center (map)

This citywide fan collection will benefit senior citizens in need of a cooling system to provide relief from the summer heat. The goal is to collect 200 fans. Persons may donate 16" to 20" box or standing, oscillating fans and/or monetary donations to any participating location. ► News Release provides more information. ► Fan Drive Flyer

23rd Annual Ms. Coastal Bend Senior Pageant on July 1, 2018

Senior ladies can meet new friends, achieve new levels of confidence and have a great time! Women age 60 or older who are residents of the following counties are invited to participate in the pageant: Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kennedy, Live Oak, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio. Contestants will participate in four events: interview, evening gown, talent, and present a statement that conveys her “philosophy of life.”  Application deadline for contestants was April 27, 2018.  ► Download the Application and Contestant Guidelines ► News Release provides more information.

Nutrition Services

We provide meals at all eight senior centers, and home-delivered meals to home-bound elderly individuals through our "Meals On Wheels" program. A nutritionally balanced, dietitian certified lunch is served Monday through Friday. For more information on the Senior Center Meal Program, please call the senior center nearest you. Senior Companion Program

Senior Companion volunteers provide assistance with daily living tasks and companionship to home-bound and disabled seniors. Senior Companions must be age 55+ and meet established income eligibility guidelines to serve 15 to 40 hours per week and receive hourly stipends. This is a program of the Senior Corps. Corpus Christi RSVP

The Corpus Christi RSVP is federally funded by the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS). Since 1977, the City of Corpus Christi has been the local sponsor. The RSVP program serves all of Nueces County and currently has over 400 active volunteers. RSVP staff match volunteers’ interests and schedules with several opportunities through non-profit agencies called Volunteer Stations that are registered with the RSVP program, with services including clerical and administrative duties, fundraising assistants, special project coordinators, receptionists, thrift and gift shop clerks, computer assistants, as well as numerous long-term, ad-hoc or short-term assignments.
