New City Secretary Named
Late this afternoon, the Mayor and City Council voted to hire Assistant City Secretary Rebecca Huerta to serve as the next City Secretary.
Mayor Nelda Martinez said, “We had good candidates for the city secretary’s position, but Mrs. Huerta distinguished herself with her experience. We have total confidence she will be a dedicated public servant and a very capable City Secretary.”
Rebecca Huerta has been with the City of Corpus Christi for 15 years and has worked in several different departments including Parks and Recreation, the City Secretary’s Office and the City Manager’s Office. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Houston.
Mrs. Huerta will receive an annual salary of $88,408, a $400 monthly car allowance and standard City benefits effective January 6, 2014. Mrs. Huerta will also receive a $10,000 increase to her base salary upon certification as a Texas Registered Municipal Clerk. She was one of four candidates interviewed for the position which will be vacated January 3, 2014, by longtime City Secretary Armando Chapa, who is retiring. Mrs. Huerta’s first day as City Secretary will be Monday, January 6, 2014.
