The selection process for the new City Attorney has concluded with Mr. Miles K. Risley set to fill the vacant City Attorney position with the City of Corpus Christi. Mr. Risley has over 20 years of legal experience including having performed as City Attorney for both the City of Wichita Falls and the City of Victoria. His experience mirrors requirements for the position and exhibits specific areas of expertise in relation to municipal law, including economic development and working with state and federal entities. The selection of Mr. Risely is subject to City Council confirmation, which will be scheduled for June 24, 2014 during an upcoming City Council meeting. If approved, his first day of employment will be August 25, 2014.
“The City Attorney is an integral part of municipal government,” said City Manager Ron Olson. “An experienced City Attorney meeting all the legal and experience requirements for our size city is difficult to recruit and we are pleased Mr. Risely will be joining the City,” added Olson. Along with Mr. Risley’s extensive municipal experience, he has also held positions with the University of Texas School of Law, Victoria College and has experience in private practice.
Mr. Barney L. Knight with Knight and Partners of Austin Texas, has served as Interim City Attorney since March 2014. “It has been a pleasure to serve with Mr. Knight over the past few months,” said Olson. “He has been able to implement change with the legal department and improve issues identified in the assessment of the department,” added Olson.
