ACCESS

The City of Corpus Christi will continuously improve the City Website to ensure accessibility . The Customer Service Center, responsible for development and management of the City Website, works closely with the Department of Human Relations to plan and identify improvement opportunities, which are included in the City's ADA Title II Comprehensive Evaluation and Transition Plan. We have worked with the Department of Human Relations and the City's Committee for Persons with Disabilities to conduct hands-on review of our site to identify any blocks . To report any problems in usage of the site or other accessibility, please use the " Citizen Accessibility Form."  You also can contact the Customer Service Center. The Relay Texas site provides assistance regarding use of TDD equipment.

Corpus Christi Libraries have Accessible Resource Centers at branches in the City with computers and special software for people with hearing, visual and other disabilities.

The City website uses BrowseAloud , a free downloadable program that reads web pages out loud.  This enables people who have difficulty reading online (from mild visual disabilities, limited literacy skills, dyslexia, or language needs) to better utilize web content.  BrowseAloud uses accessibility techniques to access and speak content from websites.

STANDARDS

The City website was developed with the following accessibility standards:

>> Bobby Level 1 compliant

>> Tested for compatibility for users with color blindness

>> Section 508 compatible

>> Images are tagged with alt attributes and administrative users are prompted to enter this information

In addition, the City contracts with vendors for some of our online payment and interactive services, and requires accessibility features such as the following:

>> No collapsible menu navigation design

>> All image and dropdown menu links include a text link alternative

>> Menus , tables and forms designed for intuitive , logical and easy use by " keyboard " navigators

>> Online services comply with Primary and Secondary 508 Federal Guidelines

>> Optimized graphic download and use of cascading stylesheets decreases load times for bandwidth challenged users

Goals for accessibility features include compatibility with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), including periodic testing. The City's content management system has built-in accessibility components.
