On September 4, 2007, the City of Corpus Christi’s graffiti ordinance became effective. Along with the updated ordinance, the City’s newest weapon for combating the graffiti problem -- the graffiti removal truck -- is now systematically removing graffiti by zip code zones, starting with the Calallen area.
Approximately every two weeks, depending on the amount of graffiti that has been reported, the truck moves to another zip code. The graffiti truck will then begin removing graffiti on private property, as long as the City has received a signed consent form from the property owner.
The City is asking the public to be patient as the process of cleaning graffiti on private property gets underway. Depending on the type and amount of reported graffiti, some zip code areas may take more time to complete than others. The truck will not be able to respond immediately to requests but will sweep the City in a systematic approach in order to most effectively abate graffiti in all areas of the City. The Corpus Christi Police Department will maintain a calendar of the zip code locations and the progress of the truck through the zip code zones.
