| The Corpus Christi Police Athletic League (CC-PAL) was established in September 2002 with a handful of CCPD officers and and a group of concerned citizens. CC-PAL is sponsored by the Police Department, but receives no funding from the City; therefore, we rely heavily on private contributions from the community. The main area of focus began with sports and the first sport chosen was baseball. The newly established board began to form bylaws and get the necessary paperwork together to become a non-profit 501(C) 3. We are a non-member board with an emphasis on education and the well being of the community in which we serve. All of the programs that CC-PAL has to offer is open to anybody within Nueces County and as of now is free of charge. |

The three years that we have been in existence, our baseball program has grown from 300 children to 900 children in 2005. This year marks the first year that we have offered girls softball along with baseball. The baseball season runs from March through mid-June and then the tournament teams play through July. |
|
This year we added another division that we call the Appaloosa Division. We work with 4 year olds and introduce them to the game of baseball in a fun way. All other age divisions run from 5-14 years of age for both boys and girls. We currently utilize three different fields, one at TC Ayers Recreation Center, one at Ben Garza Recreation Center and one at the Salvation Army. We have another season that begins in September and runs through November and only play games on Saturday. |

We also have a Martial Arts program that runs year round with about 40 children. The instructors for the Martial Arts program are O.V. Morales, who is a CCPD police officer and fifth degree black belt, and Tony Acevedo, who also is a CCPD police officer and a first degree black belt. This program is offered every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 PM- 6:30 PM at Zavala Elementary School. |

The Martial Arts program has been running since October 2003 and has participated in several tournaments in which the children took several trophies. Respect is the main focus of this program and we currently have a waiting list. |
In February of 2005 we teamed up with the Salvation Army and now have a gymnasium located at 1802 Buford. With the addition of the gymnasium, we will now be looking into creating a basketball league in the fall along with volleyball. We will also begin to start a program in late summer called radKIDS http://www.radkids.org/ . The radKIDS program is a self-empowerment program designed for children ranging in ages from 5-12. The program teaches children how to protect themselves from becoming a victim of abduction and sexual assault. The instructors for this course are two CCPD officers certified to teach this course, which is a 10-hour, 5-week course.
CC-PAL also will begin a tutoring program this spring, as we have teamed up Zavala Elementary to help those children who are struggling in different areas of education.
CC-PAL is always looking for volunteers to help in the many different programs that we offer.
