Acquisition

In 1992, the City optioned the purchase of 35,000 acre-feet per year of water rights in the Colorado River from the Garwood Irrigation Company. In 1999, the City completed the purchase.  These senior water rights are now permitted for transfer and use in the City's service area. This water would be transported to Corpus Christi via a pipeline that will be constructed, at some future date, from the Colorado River, connecting into the Mary Rhodes (Lake Texana) Pipeline at Lake Texana. The Garwood Project is part of the City's water supply strategy and is included in state and regional plans, as well as modeling of the Lower Colorado River Authority. Colorado River Sign
