Health District and Texas A&M Health Science Center Offer Diabetes Self-Management Classes in Spanish
Spanish speaking residents diagnosed with diabetes can now attend diabetes self- management classes right here in the Coastal Bend. The classes are offered through the Texas A&M Health Science Center's Coastal Bend Health Education Center, in partnership with the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District.
Participants are taught blood glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, meal planning, medication and insulin administration, the benefits of exercising and the importance of preventing complications with behavioral change. Family members are welcome and encouraged to participate in the class. In addition, all patients will receive follow-up lab work on a quarterley basis for one year.
The diabetes self-management classes taught in Spanish are available in a four-part 2 hour class series and are held in the evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Texas A&M Health Science Center Coastal Bend Health Education Center located at Del Mar College-West Campus 4101 Old Brownsville Road, HS1 Building, Room 262.
The cost for the series is $25 for patients and $10 for guests.
