City Senior Centers and Reliant Energy to host "Beat the Heat" Cooling Centers
Corpus Christi Senior Community Services in partnership with Reliant Energy are hosting the "Beat the Heat" project. This marks the 5th consecutive year that Reliant Energy Cooling Centers provide places for South Texas residents to escape the heat, stay cool during the day and minimize their home electricity use.
Today, project representatives announced the summer assistance program and details about heat relief at a press conference at the Lindale Senior Center.
The centers are open to all ages from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday from now until October 3, 2014 at the Lindale and Greenwood Senior Centers. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Snacks, water, and activities such as table games, Wii games, popular DVD movies and Zumba will be offered at no cost as part of this program. Lunch is not included.
Senior Community Services Superintendent Elsa Munoz encourages everyone to take this opportunity to come out and visit these Senior Centers. She said, “The centers provide a chance to keep cool, have fun, and also learn about the wide range of programs and services offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department. Come on in out of the heat. We’d like to have you join us this summer.”
Lindale Senior Center is located at 3135 Swantner Drive and Greenwood Senior Center is at 4040 Greenwood Drive. For more information, call 826-3150.
