The first National Night Out was introduced in 1984 – with 23 states and 2.5 million Americans participating in traditional outside lights and front porch vigils.
Many Corpus Christi neighborhoods, along with most cities and towns, now celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local law enforcements, safety fairs, and youth events.
All citizens of Corpus Christi should be aware of the importance of crime prevention programs and the impact that their participation can have on reducing crime, drugs, and violence in their neighborhoods. Police-community partnerships, and neighborhood safety, awareness, and cooperation are important themes of the National Night Out program.
The Corpus Christi Police Department encourages all citizens to join their neighbors, area law enforcement organizations, and the National Association of Town Watch in supporting the 34th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.
