| MISSION It is the primary duty of a municipal prosecutor not to convict, but to see that justice is done. (Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Section 45.201) OVERVIEW The Prosecutors’ Office is a division of the Legal Department (“City Attorney’s Office”) for the City of Corpus Christi. The City Prosecutors’ Office is responsible for representing the State of Texas (“State”) in enforcing all Class C misdemeanors including, but not limited to, Penal Code, Transportation Code, Alcoholic Beverage Code, Health and Safety Code, and City Ordinance violations. The prosecution is the legal party responsible for presenting the case against an individual suspected of breaking the law in a criminal trial. In criminal prosecution, a Prosecutor, as with any other attorney, is under a strict duty of confidentiality and can only disclose information as required by law to the defendant/accused or his/her attorney of record. OUR CLIENT The Prosecutor is the legal advocate for the people of the State of Texas in criminal prosecution. Due to our adversarial legal system or system of justice, a Prosecutor owes his/her allegiance and loyalty to its client, the State, and is not permitted to provide or render legal advice to any other party. If a conflict of interest (i.e. loyalty to another client, personal relationship, or other reasons) occurs, the Prosecutor violates his/her professional responsibility to zealously represent his/her client.
