| The Xeriscape garden features two gazebos: the Water Story Exhibit and the Children's Exhibit.
The exhibits were designed to offer visitors insight on area water resources as well as creative and interactive displays. A soil, mulch and compost exhibits are also featured at the garden.
The Water Story Exhibit
The Water Story Exhibit features a six-foot topographical map of the Nueces River Basin. Fiber optics and an audio tape relate information on storage and delivery of water to the Coastal Bend. Various photograph exhibits provide visitors with additional insight on the early settlement days when water was carried to town by way of horse drawn wagon and how water is used in South Texas today.
The Water Story Exhibit was constructed in 1993 through the acquisition of a grant from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and a generous contribution from the Nueces River Authority. | The Children's Exhibit
The Children's Exhibit was designed to involve young utility customers in hands-on learning opportunities. Such elements such as an old farm pump and other interactive activities give children an opportunity to push, pull, touch and learn about turbidity in water, cause of storm water pollution, and use of water around the home.
Contributions from other sources (too many to list) have made the garden project a success.
