2017 IN 2017: First Planting of the Year to Grow City's Canopy

Planting 37 Trees at Cullen Park on Friday, February 17, starting at 9am

(CORPUS CHRISTI, TX –  February 16, 2017) The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department, AEP and the Tree Advisory Committee invite everyone to a tree planting ceremony on Friday, February 17, starting at 9am, to kick off ‘2017 TREES IN 2017’ initiative at Cullen Park, located at 910 Airline Road. A total of 37 trees consisting of Cedar Elms, Mexican White Oak and Anacua will be planted in the park. In addition to the 20 trees supplied by the City, AEP has graciously donated 17 trees for this event.

Volunteers of all ages with the desire to make our city a healthier and more enjoyable place to live and play are welcome. Planting supplies and tools will be provided.

This event will kick off the Department’s ambitious goal of planting 2017 trees in the park system during 2017 which will expand our city’s urban tree canopy.

Join us as we celebrate trees and the many benefits they provide us every day, like cleaning our air and water, improving our health, reducing heat islands, adding beauty to our environment, increasing property values, saving money on energy bills, and so much more. For example, four people can benefit from the supply of oxygen from one large tree!
