The new system allows residents to access police reports within hours or days, instead of weeks or months, speeding insurance claims. Stolen property is identified more quickly and officers have the capability to call up burglary or theft hot spots for the past weekend or month while on patrol. Every officer in the field was required to have at least 40 hours of training for the new system. By writing police reports electronically, the new system reduces backlogs of reports. These efficiencies allow for moving some civilian employees assigned to Central Records to other departments in critical need of help. The Corpus Christi Police Department is the first law enforcement agency in the area to use an electronic report filing method. |
