MISSION 
The MIS department function is to assist in the delivery of quality products and services by managing the enterprise data center for GIS, HTE, MAXIMO, VISIFLOW, KRONOS and PeopleSoft systems, and by providing connectivity & customer services that will allow for the optimum usage of enterprise data as well as effective and efficient data, voice and video communications.

Enterprise
Provide technical support for the major applications critical to the City's day-to-day operation.

Provide project management for major enterprise business applications that are implemented within the City.

Provide technical support for both Unix and AS/400 operating systems.

Provide technical support for Oracle databases used by other departments.

Provide management of the Data Center's environmental conditions including the uninterruptible power supply, fire-suppression system, and air-conditioning.

Asset Management Support Center - Computer Training

Solutions
Recommend hardware and software standards, procurement of computer equipment, and maintain computer equipment inventory

Provide a single point of contact for hardware and software support solutions to meet operational goals with minimal down time. The Support Center provides consistent and continuous planning, coordinating, scheduling, implementing and tracking software, hardware, installations, upgrades, process changes, and problem fixes.

Offer citywide support in office automation by bridging the gap between computers and users through software training in an effort to increase personnel performance, productivity and self-reliance in the workplace.

Wide and Local Area Network System Maintenance - Communications

Protocol
Networks connect over 2000 computers, 2400 phones, 180 servers, miles and miles of copper cable inside buildings, thousands of miles of fiber cable, over 485 pieces of Ethernet equipment, and many other items.

The City's fiber network connects more than 60 sites throughout the City. The WiFi network covers more than 115 square miles and provides 20 free public access “Hot Zones”.

Networks allow City employees to share resources and applications such as e-mail, voice mail, the Internet and other crucial functions. MIS also helps the public view live Council meetings and access the Internet wirelessly.
