-Swarming season for Africanized Honeybees is
April through July, with a peak period May through June.
-Residents may see clusters of bees on trees, shrubbery or various objects.
-If you see any of the above, contact Vector Control 826-4615 to respond to the bee swarms and destroy them.
What You Should Know About Africanized Honey Bees
-Established colonies of bees may be found in various structures including houses.
-Colonies are extremely dangerous and residents should seek professional help in destroying the bees.
-Vector Control can assist homeowners in assessment of the problem and in limited cases will destroy them.
Prevention of Problems
-Inspect your property before doing yard work.
-If you find a colony of bees, stay away from them. Do not operate machinery and keep children and animals away from the area.
-Animals should not be restrained in the vicinity of the colony.
-Children should be supervised when playing.
-Parents should make sure children know about honeybees and what they should do if attacked.
-Neighbors should also be informed when a colony is located.
If Attacked by Bees
-Immediately seek shelter. Cover your head and body if possible while you are running away from the bees.
-If you experience any reaction such as hives, dizziness, or nausea, seek emergency medical attention.
-If you are uncertain of your allergy status to honeybees, you should consult your physician.
