HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS & YOUR PET

The importance of including your pets in your emergency planning should not be underestimated. Taking the time for these few steps can help ensure safety for your family and pets. If at all possible, take your pets with you. You should also have a plan ahead of time. When evacuating becomes necessary, know your destination. Find out ahead of time which hotels and relatives will allow you to bring your pets.

What should you take with you:

  • A carrier or a crate
  • Food, water, medications, sanitizing and waste disposal supplies
  • Photo of your pet(s)
  • Pet collar, leash and ID tag
  • Vaccination and medical records (boarding facilities won't take your animal if it is not vaccinated)
  • A muzzle if your pet is not use to being in contact with other people or animals

If you cannot take your dog or cat with you, put it in your bathroom with plenty of water and food.

Mark your garage door with the words "Please rescue animal." If an animal rescue does become needed, rescuers will know to search first.
