The Corpus Christi - Nueces County Public Health District describes a food establishment as a place that sells or serves food to the public. These establishments must get an annual permit and be inspected by Corpus Christi - Nueces County Public Health District. Inspections are based on a demerit system, in accordance with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
0-10 demerits = excellent
11-20 demerits = good
21-30 demerits = acceptable
31 or more = poor
The Inspection Report checks against 27 different violations, each scoring from 3 to 5.
All the violations which recieve 5 demerits involve time and temperature issues and are considered Major Violations. Items which recieve four demerits are also Major Violations and involve other issues which require immediate corrective actions such as personal hygiene, handwashing, ill employee etc.
The three point violations are non critical or minor violations and have a maximum of ten (10) days to be corrected.
Other violations shall be corrected as soon as possible and in any event, by the time of the next routine inspection, but no later than ninety (90) days after the inspection.
