- On April 14, 2007, citizens approved an extension of the district for another ten years.
- On November 4, 1997, the citizens of Corpus Christi voted to establish a Crime Control and Prevention District dedicated to crime reduction programs and the adoption of a sales and use tax at a rate of 1/8 of one percent. On November 5, 2002, citizens renewed the Crime Control and Prevention District for five years.
- The Crime Control tax money is controlled by a board of nine citizens appointed by the City Council. The board's budget is approved by the City Council.
- The tax money goes directly to accomplishing the plan developed by the Crime Control District Directors with assistance of the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Goals of the Crime Control and Prevention District Plan
- Continue funding of 50 additional police officers in high crime areas of the City.
- Decrease the incidence of criminal offenses associated with young offenders.
- Provide preventive measures to break the cycle of gang recruitment and violence.
- Reduce citizens' fear of crime.
- Further the ability of Police to fight crime by adding technological enhancements and new equipment.
