The Juvenile Enforcement Team Gang Unit is staffed by a captain, two supervisors, two shifts of officers, a senior staff assistant, and an asset forfeiture investigator. Their primary mission is to identify gang members, interdict gang related criminal offenses, and prevent violent crimes committed by gang members. JET officers identify and document gang members, their associates and maintain a database of confirmed gang members. In addition JET officers investigate crimes committed by gang members and are proactive in preventing crimes.
Public Education Programs: JET officers can conduct public education programs about gang activity and the JET mission.
Jet Investigator: The JET unit has a detective who investigates crimes committed by gang members. The JET Investigator consults regularly with Assistant District Attorneys assigned as Gang Prosecutors and works closely with the probation department, Texas State Parole and federal investigative agencies.
Graffiti Investigations: A JET officer is assigned to coordinate the investigation and prosecution of taggers or persons who choose criminal mischief as a form of expression. Corpus Christi has an innovative program to clean up graffiti and prosecute taggers.
SOS Tips: The JET Gang unit investigates tips called in to Crime Stoppers about the location of gang members carrying guns. Convicted Felons possessing firearms are aggressively pursued and prosecuted under this program. Tipsters are paid cash for information leading to an arrest, conviction, and or recovery of firearms in the possession of gang members and convicted felons.
Asset Forfeiture: Any person using a vehicle or other property in the commission of certain felonies defined in Chapter 59 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure are subject to have property seized and auctioned. The proceeds will be used by law enforcement to purchase equipment and fund programs designed to educate the public and fight crime.
