How the Program Works

Comprehensive Needs Assessment

    

The Purpose of the Model Block Program is to build strong neighborhoods, safe communities, and a sound economy. 

The Model Block Program is a new initiative developed by the City of Corpus Christi as an objective to accomplish a City Council priority goal of Neighborhood Revitalization.  The Model Block Program is a comprehensive plan to provide opportunities and resources for an improved quality of life in a designated neighborhood/target area (15-20 city block radius) identified for potential revitalization and development.

The Model Block Program is designed to identify and address several major issues within a targeted area:

  • Neighborhood and economic stability
  • Prevention of further housing and neighborhood deterioration
  • Resource availability
    • Connecting with City services to deal with issues relating to streets, trash/brush collection, police, code and zone enforcement.
    • Partnership with non-profit organizations as well as financial and lending institutions in meeting revitalization goals.
  • Land assembly for renovation and redevelopment.
    • Purchase and development of vacant lots
  • Affordable housing development
  • Special needs housing issues
    • ADA Compliance and accessibility issues
  • Neighborhood Pride activities:
    • Neighbors on Watch Program
    • Auto Theft Task Force
    • Recycling programs
    • Fire Safety Education
    • Beautification projects
    • Health & Safety Education
    • Adopt-A-Park
    • Operation Paint Brush
    • Operation Clean Sweep
    • Animal Control Education
